RMCS Community Celebrates Autumn Equinox

On September 24, 2007, Rainbow Mountain Children’s School celebrated the first day of fall in a school-wide gathering that honored the school community, the equinox’s balance of light and dark, and fall’s preparations for new life in the spring.

After welcoming students and teachers, Rainbow Mountain preschoolers and third-graders sang a seasonal song accompanied on acoustic guitar by third-grade teacher Eddy Webb. Students, teachers, staff and parents then gathered in a community circle on the school's lower field and greeted the autumn morning with yoga, poetry and lots of laughter.

The fall celebration concluded with a wind-tossed scattering of native milkweed seeds in the hopes of attracting monarch butterflies in the spring.

At Rainbow Mountain, the autumn equinox is a treasured time to deepen community bonds and to awaken to our connection with the Earth, her creatures and seasonal rhythms.
